RAID 5 Data Recovery

RAID 5 is one of the most popular RAID levels, and can be configured to be both a hardware and software RAID array.

raid 5 data recovery

When a RAID 5 system is implemented each data block is written to one of the disks in the array, and to a parity block, which is generated within the RAID array.

RAID 5 systems commonly only have one parity block per stripe, thus failure of a more than one drive will result in complete data loss.

The maximum number of drives in a RAID 5 system is theoretically limitless, however it is common practice not to exceed 14 drives within the array, especially if there is only one parity block per stripe. The main reason for restricting the array to this number of disks is that there is a greater likelihood of two disks in an array failing in rapid succession when there is greater number of disks.

Due to the experience and knowledge of these systems, Fields Data Recovery last year had a success rate in excess of 90% for these types of RAID systems and offers the fastest turnaround type current available in the UK, often returning data to customers within 24 Hours.
